Chrysler Compensates Texas Woman Paralyzed by Grand Cherokee Roof

Rob Ammons has achieved resolution of the product defect claims brought by a 53-year-old woman who suffered a cervical spinal cord injury when the 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee in which she was a passenger rolled over.

The defect claims involved the Jeep’s weak roof which, according to the lawsuit Ammons filed, collapsed onto the properly belted woman, inflicting both brain and spinal trauma. Ammons contended there were safer economically and technologically feasible alternative designs available to Chrysler for use in the Jeep’s roof structure which would have prevented the excessive crush and severe reduction in survival space pictured in the exterior and interior photographs below.

Impact of the woman’s head with the roof structure as well as the compression of her neck as the roof collapsed onto her caused a brain injury and cervical fractures with spinal cord disruption that required two surgeries and resulted in quadriplegia. $454,898 in past medical expenses were incurred, and the costs for necessary treatment and life care in the future are projected to be in excess of $11 Million.

“Rollovers happen. Chrysler knows that. Building SUVs with weak roofs that paralyze people when rollovers occur is inexcusable,” says Ammons.

The Ammons Law Firm has a nationwide personal injury practice focusing on tire defects, truck accidents, rollovers, consumer protection and product liability, catastrophic injury, wrongful death, post-collision fires, seat belt defects, air bag defects and plant explosions.
