Houston Post-Collision Fires Attorney
Post-collision fires kill and maim thousands of innocent people every year. Defective fuel systems are to blame for many burn injuries and deaths because of fuel systems that are defective. Fuel systems should be designed to stay togetehr and protect the occupants during collisions.
The post-collision car fire attorneys at the Ammons Law Firm believe that a person should not survive a crash only to be burned in a post-collision fire. When that happens, we pursue a fuel system defect case.
Our post-collision car fire attorneys have experience investigating and pursuing cases concerning fuel system design defects which can involve fuel tank location, fuel filler cap design, filler pipe protection and attachment, fuel line protection and routing, and fuel pump shutoff switches.
Our post-collision fire attorneys understand the hardships faced by burn victims and their families. We will carefully review your particular case circumstances and work hard to get you the results that will bring your family relief.

NHTSA Study on Post Collision Fires
A recent study by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, (NHTSA) found that there were 228,000 people in vehicle fires between 1979 and 1986, or an average of 29,000 per year. This study also found that:
- Fire, and not just the higher crash forces associated with the fire, increases the risk of serious injury
- 88 percent of the survivors of post-collision fires would have been less seriously injured if the vehicle fires had been prevented
- About 99 percent of the survivors had burn injuries more severe than their impact-induced injuries
- 26 percent of fatalities caused by burns would have had no, or only minor, injuries if they hadn’t been burned
Anatomy of an Investigation
In any case involving a collision where a fire occurred and passengers either survived or would have survived had there not been a fire, our post collision fire attorneys begin by investigating whether the fire began because of a vehicle defect.
We begin this investigation as soon as possible because burned vehicles deteriorate rapidly. We then take steps to secure the vehicle so it cannot be tampered with. Our post collision fire attorneys store the vehicle indoors to prevent rust or corrosion, photograph the vehicle and take inventory of all the parts and pieces of the vehicle. It is very important all pieces of the car remain in the same condition they were in immediately after the collision.
Our post-collision fire attorneys interview witnesses as quickly as possible to determine the time the fire started, where the fire started and how it spread, the color of the flame to determine whether it was gasoline-fed, the smoke’s color and thickness, the fire’s heat, the fire’s height and whether there was any “flash-back” of fire that could indicate a product defect.
