Chrysler Ram Recalls 1.5 Million Vehicles for Gear-Shifting Issue
What is the gear-shifting issue?
Fiat Chrysler has described the issue as a problem with the brake-transmission shift interlock device on the affected Ram vehicle after it has been exposed to high interior temperatures caused by an electrical problem inside.
Chrysler stated that if the brake transmission interlock device becomes disabled, a vehicle’s shifter may be moved out of Park even if the brake pedal is not depressed, or even without a key in the ignition. If the parking brake hasn’t been set, the truck could inadvertently move and even run over bystanders.
What Vehicles are included in the Recall?
Models include some 2010 through 2017 Ram 2500 and 3500 pickups; some 2011 through 2017 Ram 3500, 4500, and 5500 models; 2016 and 2017 Ram 3500 models that weigh less than 10,000 pounds; and some 2009 through 2017 Ram 1500 pickups.
2017 model year trucks built after Dec. 31, 2016 are not included in the recall.
